Following an increase in calls the community police teams from Wishaw and Shotts are going to be carrying out days of action against illegal and anti-social use of motorbikes and quad bikes in the area.
Officers will be out on Police quad bikes, cycle and foot to target those responsible who are often uninsured and do not have a driving licence.
The police have the power to seize any bike or quad that is uninsured on a public place and will be actively looking to do so.
Sergeant Jim Mutter, from Wishaw Police Office, said: “We are committed to tackling the anti-social behaviour and damage caused by people using motorbikes and quad bikes illegally and are aware of the misery that the noise of the bikes cause to the local community.
“The riders of such bikes pose a danger to members of the public including children playing in the woodland and park areas and are also responsible for damage to private and public land that also has a significant impact on the community.
“I would appeal to anyone with information about persons using off-road bikes/quads illegally to contact the Police on 101, email LanarkshireLPSTWishawandShotts@scotland.pnn.police.uk or call anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
