Wishaw pensioners share centuries of life experience with the younger generation

The elderly residents at Netherton Court Care Home have centuries of wisdom between them.

And the pensioners shared a snippet of it last week when asked the question “what advice do you have for the younger generation?”

As part of new activities at the care facility, the residents were quizzed by staff and shared their thoughts on a white board.

“Be kind and careful,” was the advice from 84-year-old Janet Curran.

“Treat people the way you want to be treated,” said 94-year-old Cathy Cooper.

And the younger generation were simply told to “behave themselves” by 67-year-old Tam Davidson, who clearly wasn’t in the mood for any nonsense.

There were plenty more life lessons shared by pensioners, and their conversations allowed them to relive some of their fond memories.

Kelly Nicholson, from Netherton, has become the activities co-ordinator at the care home.

She said: “One of my colleagues told me about another care home doing this same activity and we thought it would be fun to do the same here.

“The residents really enjoyed it and it really got them talking about their own childhood and experiences as they were growing up. So it was also interesting for staff as the residents went into their own stories.”
