Wishaw mum who fell pregnant with twins after losing newborn baby wins flowers competition

A Wishaw mum who fell pregnant with twins months after losing her newborn baby has been surprised with a beautiful gift.

Life hasn’t always been full of double smiles and giggles for Ashley Smith.

The 30-year-old, from Newmains, has been through the mill the last few years.

She has had to endure heartbreak after heartbreak, more than most people have to deal with in their lifetime.

Ashley’s life was shattered when her sister Zoe Nelson was murdered in woods near to Cambusnethan in 2011.

She was devastated to have lost her sibling and has had to deal with life without her since.

Last year, Ashley picked up an infection when she was around seven months pregnant.

Doctors were unable to detect what type of infection she was suffering from and therefor were unable to treat it quickly.

This meant she went into early labour and gave birth to her beautiful baby boy, Keanan, prematurely.

Unfortunately, he had has also contracted the infection and died 23 hours later.

Ashley’s aunt Lorna Hynes wanted to show her niece she was thinking about her and that she’ll always be here to support her.

She nominated her for our Say it With Flowers competition and was delighted to present her with the gorgeous bouquet of flowers – courtesy of Pixie’s Petals, Newmains – at her home last week.

Lorna said: “I am so honoured and extremely pleased to be able to call this girl my niece.

“I’m extremely happy to have her in my life and I couldn’t be any happier knowing how well she as coped with everything she has had to deal with.”

Two months after losing little Keanan, Ashley found out she was expecting again.

She was shocked to discover she was pregnant with twins.

She gave birth to little Kodie and Zoey at 33 weeks on January 31.

The little ones had to be cared for in hospital due to their low birth weight and feeding problems.

Ashley said: “It was a lovely surprise. I was not expecting it at all.

“Thanks to my auntie Lorna for thinking and putting me forward for it.”
