Wishaw man who assaulted former partner is cleared of hitting her with a flute

A Wishaw man has been cleared of hitting his former partner with a flute during a domestic disturbance.

Craig Sheridan was accused of striking the woman with the instrument and trying repeatedly to hit her mum with it too.

Sheridan admitted assaulting both women when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court, but all reference to the flute was deleted from the charges.

Sheridan, 29, of Stonecraig Road, was also cleared of having the flute as an offensive weapon.

The assault happened on Greenlaw Avenue, Wishaw, on July 25.

Sheridan shoved his ex to the ground, dragged her, kicked her repeatedly and threw keys at her.

He shouted abuse and damaged a door.

Sheridan then shoulder charged her mum to the ground on Coldstream Crescent, Coltness.

He had been in custody since his arrest, but after lodging the guilty pleas lawyer Matthew McGovern secured bail for his client.

Sheriff Moira MacKenzie deferred sentence until next month for a criminal justice social work report and a restriction of liberty assessment.

Sheridan will also be sentenced then for a separate domestic assault.
