Wishaw kids delighted at official opening of new sensory play park at school

Youngsters at a primary school in Wishaw were jumping for joy at the official opening of a specially designed sensory play park.

The parents of children at St Aidan’s Primary’s learning and communication support centre (LCSC) set up a charity, raising over £60,000 to have the play park installed on a disused part of the school grounds. It features a trampoline, a chute, and a host of sensory equipment to stimulate the children’s senses.

Leeann Reynolds, 33, was involved with the fundraising activities. Her son Robbie, 6, is a pupil at the school.

She said: The children are the real winners. They are absolutely loving it, and loving the freedom they have of being able to play on the trampoline and slide. It’s amazing to watch them interacting. We’ve worked so hard for it, so it’s great to see their wee faces.”

The charity; Shining Stars St Aidan’s, raised over £60,000 with Morrisons supermarket donated a whopping £15,000.

The garden which was installed by Scotplay cost in the region of £36,00 leaving a surplus some of which will be used to buy learning equipment for the children.

Head teacher Sandra McLean, said: “The playground makes outdoor learning and play more accessible for the children. We are delighted that our parents are so involved and supportive of the school.”
