Wishaw Housing Association tenants can run rule over merger later this month

Tenants can expect to run the rule over the proposed merger of Wishaw and District Housing Association later this month.

Following the success of a number of roadshows and meetings with community groups, WDHA board members are now reviewing a business case in relation to merging with Edinburgh-based housing association Trust.

Once the plan has been submitted and approved by the board and rubber-stamped by the Scottish Housing Regulator, tenants will then have the opportunity to find out how the proposed changes will affect them.

The regulator’s statutory manager Mags Lightbody said: “Once the report is released and tenants get the chance to see what is going to be on offer I think they will be pleased.

“It is set to be a pretty ground-breaking deal keeping all the things that are important to WDHA tenants such as a local service within Wishaw and a level of service.”

Tenants can expect the plans to pop through their letterbox by May 20 with a final ballot on whether WDHA should merge with Trust likely to now be held in August.

WDHA chief executive Niall Gordon, pictured, said he was pleased with the response the plans had received at various roadshows and from groups such as Central Wishaw and Coltness Community Councils.

“I think we have been able to offer most tenants the assurances they have wanted,” said Niall.

“We had one roadshow in Wishaw that was very well attended and we’ve went out and spoke to a number of local groups. I have been pleased with the response we have received and that’s been good to see.”

WDHA say the partnership with Trust will offer considerable benefits to tenants including greater security over rent levels, quicker investment in their homes, locally delivered service from local office in Wishaw and access to a greater range of services including those for older people

WDHA tenants will make the final decision on whether the transfer goes ahead by voting in the final ballot .

If the majority voting agrees to the transfer, it will go ahead.
