Wishaw gunshots: Armed police scrambled amid reports of shots in Craigneuk

Armed police officers were scrambled to a street in Wishaw last night after reports of gunshots being fired.

Emergency services were alerted to reports of a disturbance on Gateside Road in the Craigneuk area of the town at around 8.30pm last night.

Police say they dispatched 'specialist officers' to the scene in response.

A Police Scotland spokesperson this morning confirmed there are no reported injuries following the incident.

The force has now launched an investigation to establish the full circumstances of what happened and an appeal has been launched for anyone with information to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.30pm on Wednesday, 14 July, police received a report of a disturbance and gun shots being fired on Gateside Road, Craigneuk, Wishaw.

“Specialist officers attended and there was no trace of anyone injured.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 3502 of Wednesday, 14 July, 2021. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
