Wishaw golfers raise thousands for charity in memory of tragic Natalie

It was the biggest year to date for the The Funky Natz Foundation Charity, as more than 100 golfers took to the course to raise money for the worthy cause.

The Funky Natz Trophy was contested at Wishaw Golf Club on Sunday, May 26, to raise cash for Epilepsy Scotland in memory of Natalie Hughes, pictured.

The event, organised by a voluntary committee in aid of Epilepsy Scotland, raised almost £11,000, bringing the total raised to date to £90,000.

It is part of a continuing drive by parents Eddie and Eileen Hughes, following the sudden death of their beloved daughter eight years ago.

Natalie’s uncle Iain Cairns, part of the organising committee, said: “It was a great day. It was wet but the rain certainly didn’t dampen our spirits.

“A brilliant effort from everyone involved and all those who played and took part in the raffle.

“We could not do this without their incredible generosity.

“Thanks to everyone for their continued support.”

Although not identified as the cause of her death, Natalie was diagnosed as having epilepsy and her family used the tragedy as a springboard to help raise awareness and funds.

The family launched the Funky Natz Foundation in 2011.

Golfers had the chance to win a Dacia car, thanks to Parks Motor Group, if they were able to hit a hole in one on the 17th hole.

Unfortunately, nobody was lucky enough to do so.

Robyn Friel, head of fundraising at Epilepsy Scotland said: “We are very grateful to the Funky Natz Foundation for their continued support. The money raised makes a huge difference.”
