Wishaw feud man cleared of attempted knife assault charge is fined for threatening behaviour

A feud resulted in a Wishaw man ending up in the dock at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

Keith Milligan battered a door with a stick and demanded to see Gary Murray.

But he was cleared of trying to stab Mr Murray on a later occasion.

Milligan, 40, of Northmuir Drive, admitted threatening or abusive behaviour in Sidlaw Drive, Wishaw, on February 26 last year.

Chloe O’Hara, prosecuting, said he was spotted hitting a door.

She told the court: “A man in his back garden asked him what he wanted and the accused replied ‘Gary’.

“He was told he was at the wrong door then went to another house and struck that door with a wooden stick.

“A female there heard banging and opened the door.

“She found the accused who began to shout and swear, asking for Gary. She managed to keep him out and closed the door.

“Milligan left and as he passed the man he’d spoken to earlier he shouted ‘Do you want a piece?’.”

Milligan was also charged with assaulting Mr Murray by trying to strike him with a knife in Sidlaw Drive on September 19 last year, but his not guilty plea was accepted.

Defence agent Bobby Reid said there had been problems between the men and Milligan’s house had been damaged shortly before the incident in February 2019.

Mr Reid admitted: “His behaviour was unacceptable.”

The solicitor revealed that Milligan was the victim of a serious assault in his own home last month, but stressed it had nothing to do with Murray.

He told Sheriff Allan McKay: “I had concerns over him appearing in court, but he insisted he was fit to attend.”

The sheriff fined Milligan £180.
