Wishaw drivers set for relief with traffic lights set to be removed on A71

Wishaw commuters who faced long delays on a busy junction are in for some welcome relief.

Earlier this month, drivers began facing major delays on the A71 Horsely Brae, near Overtown, following a localised landslip.

However, this week a North Lanarkshire Council spokesperson said: “Following the landslip next to the A71 at Horsley Brae, we have identified a solution to allow the removal of the temporary traffic signals.

“We hope to complete these works by Sunday, March 22.

“Further works will be required in the coming months to complete a permanent repair.”

North Lanarkshire Council, along with its council colleagues in South Lanarkshire had been urging motorists to find an alternative route if possible.

Earlier this month, NLC stated: “A localised landslip has occurred at a length of embankment next to the A71 Horsley Brae, at its junction with Brownlee Road.

“The footway is currently closed and temporary traffic lights will shortly be in place until the embankment can be restored.

“The restoration of a pedestrian route will be considered once the temporary signals have been erected.

“Drivers are advised that delays are likely.”
