Wishaw dogs get their teeth into pet-friendly Easter eggs

It was a dog’s life when three Wishaw border collies got their teeth into pet-friendly Easter eggs.

Keela, 10 months, Ginny, eight, and Luna, 10, members of the Scottish Border Collie Club, tested out the pet-friendly Easter treats.

The pooches live with Scottish Border Collie club secretary Lynn Lawrie in Branchalwood.

Lynn, who has previously won best of breed at Crufts, said: “The eggs are made from carob, the doggie alternative to chocolate, and have a peanut butter flavour so smell sweet.

“The dogs loved them.”

The goodies are flying off shelves at pet stores, supermarkets and discounters priced from £1.99. And dogs are not the only ones to enjoy an Easter treat – we found eggs for hamsters, rabbits, cats and even horses and ponies.

Caroline Kisko of The Kennel Club said: “There are alternative products made from non-toxic ingredients.

“While there is the potential for dogs to make the association between packaging of the dog treat and packaging of human chocolate eggs, it doesn’t alter the fact that dog owners should always be vigilant during Easter and keep chocolate eggs, which are poisonous to dogs, out of reach.”
