Wishaw 'didn't see defeat coming' as Vale of Clyde claim big win

Wishaw assistant boss David Dunn admits he didn’t see their defeat to struggling Vale of Clyde coming.

Vale were bottom of West of Scotland Conference C going into Saturday’s clash at the Beltane and despite the hosts taking the lead through Kieran Brannan, the visitors ran out 4-1 winners.

Dunn, whose side hammered Glasgow Perthshire 5-1 last week, said: “It was the polar opposite to last week.

“This really was a bad day at the office and there’s a big gap now [five points] to the top four.

“We started the game brightly and went in front, but then we switched off at a free-kick and the game changed when they got their goal.

"We came out in the second half and lost another goal from a set-piece and they got their third goal when we were pushing to get back into it.

”I didn’t see it coming.”

Wishy must now lift themselves for a huge test this weekend when they face Premier side Hurlford United in round two of the South Challenge Cup.

And Dunn, who took the team on Saturday with gaffer Mark Daly on holiday, added: “They are a top side and these are the games you want to be involved in. We can’t afford to play the way we did against Vale of Clyde.

“But it’s a free hit for us. Nobody will be expecting anything for us, but we’ll hope to get a positive result and, hopefully, a positive performance.”
