A Cambusnethan couple had a sparkle in their eyes as they celebrated their Diamond Wedding anniversary.
Family and friends got together at Artisan restaurant in Wishaw to mark Frank and Janette Mckie’s 60 years of marriage recently.
Frank, 85, who is from Wishaw, and Janette, 83, first met while at the dancing in Carluke Town Hall.
The couple got together after Frank came out of the Army as a 20-year-old and Janette was 18.
Janette, whose maiden name is Hogg, admits that it wasn’t quite love at first sight.
But it didn’t take too long for the couple to realise they were made for each other.
Five years after they first laid eyes on each other they were married on August 14, 1959, at St Machan’s Church in Larkhall, where Janette was brought up.
The couple went on to have three children; Jan, 58, Elizabeth, 56, and Bobby, 54.
They are also proud grandparents to Wendy, Steven and Scott, and have five great grandchildren.
The happy couple have lived together in Cambusnethan since 1975.
Frank, a former pupil of Wishaw Academy, said: “It’s a long time. We’ve had a good life together and it’s been quite a long journey all these years, we’ve had a great many laughs and not a lot of tears.
“We’ve been lucky that way so we can’t really complain. We have quite a close family and all keep in touch.”
Apart from a bit of give and take, Janette doesn’t believe there’s any real secret to the longevity of their marriage.
She said: “There needs to be compromise on both sides and it’s a 50/50 thing. We get on pretty well.”
The loving couple are already looking to the future and have set their sights on reaching their next big milestone celebration.
“We’re holding out for our platinum anniversary,” Janette admitted.
