Wishaw centenarian celebrates milestone birthday in style

Newmains centenarian Nan Aitken celebrated her birthday in style last week.

She marked the milestone with family and friends on Saturday, April 20, at her party in the Cambusnethan Miners Welfare.

Nan was born Agnes McRoberts at Waterloo on Saturday, April 19, 1919.

One of 14 children to Wilhemina and Thomas, she attended school nearby at Overtown Primary.

Nan married Alexander Aitken at Overtown Parish Church in 1941.

 

The couple had three children: Alexander, Kenneth and Alexandria. They were happily married for 47 years before Alex sadly passed away in 1988.

The 100-year-old has five grandchildren: Greig, Kenneth, Derek, Louise and Gillian.

She also has six great-grandchildren: Jordan, Andrew, Lauren, Isabel, Rachel and Zöe.

Provost Jean Jones along with Depute Lieutenant David Russell went along to present Nan with a card and a basket of flowers from the people of North Lanarkshire and a card from the Queen.
