Wishaw boss pleased to see side go toe-to-toe with Johnstone Burgh in defeat

Wishaw boss Mark Daly admits he can’t be too hard on his players after going toe-to-toe with Johnstone Burgh in a 2-0 defeat on Saturday.

Jamie Sidebotham’s 13th minute effort gave Burgh the lead before a last minute strike from Nathan Marriott sealed the win for the visitors.

Daly was gutted his charges didn’t take something from the game, but was pleased with their effort against the unbeaten outfit.

He said: “Johnstone Burgh are a young team and I asked the boys to match their energy and enthusiasm, which we did.

"We did that really well.

”I can’t be too critical. We are a new team and boys are still getting used to playing with each other.

“I’m not saying we deserved to win the game, but I don’t think we deserved to get beat.

“It was an eachy-peachy game. They scored with a deflection after a few minutes and the first half kind of fizzled out.

“In the second half we were camped in their half without doing much and then they hit us with a sucker-punch in the 89th minute.

“It looks a bit more comfortable for them than it actually was, but goals change games.

“They are a good team and hit us on the break well.

“We were poor in the final third and didn’t take the chances we had.”

Mid-table Wishaw now head to bottom side Vale of Leven on Saturday.

Kick-off is 1.45pm at Millburn Park.
