Wishaw boss looking to add new goalkeeper and striker for Neilston clash

Wishaw boss Mark Daly is plotting a double signing swoop as he targets a top four finish in the West of Scotland League Conference B.

The Beltane side are currently on their festive break, but Daly is hard at work trying to strengthen his squad for their return at home to unbeaten league leaders Neilston on January 9.

A new goalkeeper – following Matty Craig’s decision to leave last month – and a striker are on his shopping list.

Daly said: “We’ve got a couple of players we are looking at that we hope to get in time for Neilston.

“One is a striker and one is a goalkeeper. We lost our goalkeeper Matty and we’ve had Sandy Thomson playing as a trialist from Wishaw High since, but he has to go back to his old team now.

“So we’ll have to bring a keeper in and hopefully we get that over the line, and a big striker in as well.”

Wishaw are seventh in the table after the opening eight games and as they head into 2021 Daly wants them to push up the table.

He added: “We want to finish as high as possible and be realistic.

“We are seventh, so if we could break into the top four or five that would be reasonable.

“I think Neilston and St Cadoc’s will be the top two for me. I can’t see Neilston having a slip up, they are flying right now.

“Johnstone Burgh are consistent as well so I think it will be difficult to break into that top three. Anything under that would be a bonus.”

As he looked back on the season so far, he said: “I think we could have been better off.

“The three points we lost to Forth and the two we lost in the draw to Lugar are ones we shouldn’t have dropped, so we could have been higher.

"But I’m delighted with how we’ve competed against the likes of St Cadoc’s the other week.

”I’m pleased with the points on the board, but I think the report card would say ‘could do better’.”
