Wishaw-based youth charity asks 'what is normal'?

A Wishaw youth work charity has been busy with a number of projects in the community.

MADE4U in ML2 took part in the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival last month, showcasing children’s poetry and sharing 'tips and tricks for normality' from local community members.

These were showcased on the organisation’s Facebook and Twitter pages, with the theme for submissions in the children’s poetry competition being, 'everyone is normal until you get to them'.

Adele Bryson, from MADE4U - who have a community centre in Cambusnethan - told Lanarkshire Live : “We have had some really interesting poems from children in P5b from Saint Thomas’ Primary school and P5/6 Newmains Primary School.

"These were around the topics of feelings, hobbies, friendships in sharing their emotional awareness.

"This was showcased in a video on YouTube.”

'Tips and tricks for normality' were gathered from community members who were asked to describe what their 'normal' is.

Many gave examples of activities, hobbies, and tricks which keep them happy and positive.

Adele added: “These have now been displayed on the side of our building to bring colour and positivity to the community.

“Come and take a look while they are still up. If you are walking past take a moment to give them a read, these might well encourage a positive mindset, they may help calm your mind, or help with new hobbies or learning something new”.

The organisation works with young people, individuals and families to help them to make their own positive lifestyle choices.

The tips and tricks can be seen displayed on the centre situated on Greenfield Drive.
