
A meteor streaking over Mt. Fuji is seen from Fujikawaguchiko, Yamanashi Prefecture, at 4:26 a.m. on Saturday. From Friday night to before dawn Saturday, the Geminid Meteor Shower reached its peak. As the weather was fine mainly along the Pacific Ocean in eastern Japan, numerous astronomical enthusiasts watched the meteor shower. According to the National Astronomical Observatory, the meteor shower is caused by dust discharged from an asteroid known as Phaethon.
