NEW DELHI: The Andhra Pradesh government on Thursday claimed to have become wiser and withdrew from the Supreme Court its eight monthold petition challenging a HC decision staying investigations into an FIR and stopping police from taking coercive action in a case relating to an alleged land scam in Amaravati.
Police had registered the FIR against former advocate general of the state D Srinivas and 13 others, including two daughters of a sitting SC judge, for allegedly purchasing land in Amaravati with insider knowledge even before a decision was taken to declare the area to be the capital of the state. There were allegations that the FIRs were a retaliation against an order of the SC judge to expedite the trial in pending cases against elected representatives. CM Jagan Reddy has nearly a dozen criminal cases pending trial against him.
The HC had stayed the investigation and coercive action against the accused, leading the AP government to rush to the SC.
