A Wisconsin appeals court sided with state Republicans on Wednesday in reinstating some of their sweeping legislation passed during a lame-duck session following last year’s midterm to weaken the powers of the newly elected Democratic governor, reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Details: This comes almost a week after a state circuit judge issued an injunction that temporarily blocked laws Democrats called a "power grab." The 3rd District Court of Appeals lifted the injunction at the request of Republicans, while the case continues to play out in court. But as the Sentinel explains, some of the laws remained blocked after a second federal judge on Tuesday halted a few of the provisions — including one that prohibits Gov. Tony Evers from pulling Wisconsin out of multistate lawsuits without legislators' permission. An appeal in the second case is expected soon.
