Wirral woman floors This Morning fans with breast milk jewellery on show

A woman from Wirral has floored viewers of This Morning today with her breast-milk jewellery business.

Alison Hawthorn appeared on the ITV show today to talk with Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford about her unique enterprise.

The 30-year-old said she was inspired to set up the business during lockdown after she had just given birth to twins.

She said: "I breast-fed my twins and I wanted something to commemorate our feeding journey. I had breast milk and I had the resin so I knew it could be done and just researched and practiced."

Alison is completely self-taught and people started to reach out to her with requests after she posted the first keepsake she made on social media.

Business has since boomed and she has now launched her own arts and craft shop selling DNA jewellery.

Alison has since expanded the company to make jewellery from pet fur, ashes, baby teeth and umbilical cords - and some This Morning viewers took to Twitter baffled by the concept.

One user said: "Breast milk as jewellery? Ewwww gross! Where do they find these people"

Another questioned: "She makes what from what?"

A third added "I make jewellery from breast milk" what even is this world."

However, Alison responded to her critics and said she understands when people have an extreme reaction.

She said "I understand it's breast-milk, but, at the end of the day, it is only milk. There's nothing disgusting about it because it's natural."

And other This Morning fans took to Twitter in praise of Alison's unique business.

One fan said: "Surprised to see so many people disgusted by the breastmilk jewellery on #ThisMorning. Anything that normalises breastfeeding is amazing. The pride and sense of achievement you get from breastfeeding your baby contained, why not."

Another added: "I’m just watching @thismorning and there is a lady on that makes some stunning jewellery from breast milk, such a beautiful way to commemorate such a wonderful thing."

This Morning returns tomorrow at 10am on ITV and ITVHub
