It is about to become much easier to own an electric vehicle in Wirral, as the council is set to install many more charging points across the borough.
A pilot project will see on-street electric vehicle (EV) charging points introduced in Wirral for the first time.
Wirral Council will install 40 new charging points in parts of Wallasey and Hoylake, in the hope that it will encourage more people to move away from petrol and diesel vehicles.

The work, being conducted by the council’s contractor SSE Enterprise, is taking place across August and September and you will be able to charge your car using the charging points from October.
The decision to locate the charging points in Wallasey and Hoylake has been made based on a 2019 survey which asked residents where they would most like to see EV charging points.
The £100,000 scheme is being funded by a grant from the Office for Zero Emissions Vehicles, a government agency, and Wirral Council.
It is part of the local authority’s commitment to shift to fossil fuel free local travel by around 2030.
That commitment is a key part of the council’s climate strategy, Cool 2, and the authority feels improvements to the network will contribute towards achieving it.
Cllr Liz Grey, chair of Wirral Council’s Environment and Transport Committee, said: “While electric vehicles are not the primary solution to climate emergency issues, it is important that we do what we can to encourage those who have to travel by car to do so without causing as much air pollution or [greenhouse gas] emissions.
The Labour councillor added: “This pilot project will take us a step closer in that regard.
“A big part of our climate emergency action plan is to work towards a future with far more active travel and better public transport.”
