Wirral children’s centre to close as services moved elsewhere

Parents will be forced to travel elsewhere as Wirral Council has decided to close a children’s centre in the west of the borough.

Pensby Children’s Centre is to shut down, with its services being relocated to Bromborough Children’s Centre, in Gratrix Road, which will become the hub for South and West Wirral.

The centre has been closed since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and some of its activities were already moved to Pensby Primary School earlier this year.

Other outreach services remain available in Black Horse Hill Infant School, Hoylake Community Centre and Ganney’s Meadow.

Cllr Wendy Clements, chair of Wirral Council’s education committee, said: “At all times, our commitment is to offer quality services to the families, children and young people in our borough, in the most efficient way we can.

The Conservative councillor added: “I regret the loss of this wonderful facility but I have been assured that these services will continue to be provided in an accessible way for all service users.”

Labour councillor Anita Leech, chair of the authority’s economy and regeneration committee, said: “As a responsible authority, one of our key priorities is to regularly review the use of all buildings within our portfolio.

“In this way, we can understand the status of the individual premises in terms of how they are being used and can give proper consideration to their carbon footprint, environmental impact and age.”
