Wirral bin collection update after driver shortages forced delays

Wirral residents have been issued with an update about brown bin collections.

Wirral Council announced the change yesterday to its brown bin garden waste collection after the service had been forced to move to four weekly collections in August due to driver shortages, a move which had sparked anger among some local residents.

In a statement issued on the council's Facebook page, a spokesperson said: "Just a quick reminder that garden waste (brown bin) collections are back to the usual fortnightly schedule" with the move coming into effect from yesterday, September 28.

The spokesperson added: "All missed collections will be added to the end of this year’s subscription period, so you will receive all the collections you paid for.

"Those subscribed to the service will have received an email or letter confirming this and we’ll be in touch with further details nearer the time.

"Thank you again for your patience and understanding during the disruption."

Information about new bin collection dates are available on the Wirral Council website.

Bin collections had previously been moved to fortnightly for the subscription service after contractor Biffa experienced a shortage of drivers.
