Winx wins again, beating Black Caviar's Group One record

Champion mare Winx has won her 23rd consecutive race in her Autumn comeback with a comfortable win in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes.

It was Winx's 16th Group One win, eclipsing the previous Australian record held by Black Caviar.

Jockey Hugh Bowman settled Winx in second-last place, before looping the field and romping to a seven-length victory.

"She had a lovely run sort of closer to the rear of the field," Bowman said.

Bowman rode Winx after returning for a seven-meet suspension he incurred from a ride on Tsawlu on Australia Day.

He has now ridden the mare 23 times for 22 wins.

Winx's last start was the Cox Plate, where she won a record third trophy.

Bowman said she was uncharacteristically calm leading up to the race and was "a very happy horse" going into the barriers.

"She might have finally matured," Bowman said.

Winx trainer Chris Waller said she was running better now than when she was a four-year-old.

"She knows her job and she enjoyed her job and she enjoys going home just to be another horse," he said.

The mare has now won almost $16 million in prize money.
