A flock of greater scaup ducks fly over Kasai Marine Park in Edogawa Ward, Tokyo. The park on Tokyo Bay is the only place in the capital where there is a wetland designated as having international importance under the Ramsar Convention. As it becomes colder, migratory birds fly to the park from Siberia and other places in the north to bring a sense of the season to the waterfront. Flocks of greater scaups, great crested grebes and other birds began arriving from late October, according to the park staff. They will continue to fly in until December. Up to several tens of thousand migratory birds spend the winter at tidal flats in the park. They can be watched until March, when the weather becomes warmer.
