Wintry showers and frosts ahead as Scandinavian chill arrives

Cooler air from Scandinavia will sweep across the country this week meaning temperatures will take dip.

A few wintry showers are possible as well as spells of rain or drizzle, all caused by high pressure close to Scandinavia pulling cooler air from the east.

Most places could be vulnerable to overnight frosts although it is too late in the year for a widespread wintry blast.

The high will dominate for northern areas of the UK as the week progresses, while in the south, lower pressure will bring overcast skies with periods of rain, some heavy at times.

This should ease by midweek becoming mainly dry with Thursday and Friday seeing the coolest conditions.

Temperatures should start to edge upwards slightly by the weekend with brighter weather spreading into the Midlands and southern areas.

A spokesperson for  The Weather Channel  said: “Higher pressure over Scandinavia will feed colder air from the east with temperatures lowering to about 2 to 3C below-normal during the coldest days on Thursday and Friday.

“The colder spell will be short-lived with low pressure from the west bringing milder air ahead of it from the south-west with temperatures recovering to around normal during the weekend. Temperatures over the Easter weekend are expected to be around normal.”
