A downpour hit parts of Canberra early on Thursday as a string of warm and sunny days gave way to wintry conditions.
The ACT could receive almost half its average November rainfall with up to 30mm expected to fall on Thursday ahead of clearer skies on Friday.
By 7am, 14.6mm had been recorded at Canberra Airport overnight.
Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) duty forecaster Helen Kirkup said a trough sweeping across NSW would bring cloudy and wet conditions on Thursday.
Following a string of warm and sunny days, with Wednesday reaching 27 degrees, the temperature has dropped to a brisk top of 16.
Rain clouds will begin to clear by Friday as the BOM forecast a partly cloudy day with a top of 20 degrees and low of 4.
Thursday's deluge comes after a record-breaking month of rain in October.

The BOM said 133.6mm was recorded at Canberra Airport throughout the month, smashing the 2010 record of 102.8mm.
The average rainfall in Canberra for November is 63.8mm.
