Winterstoke Road crash: Family pay tribute to 'gentle giant' who died in Bristol

The family of a man who died in a crash in Bristol have paid tribute to the ‘gentle giant’ who was loved by all who knew him.

Patrick Hegarty, from Knowle, died when the car he was driving collided with a van on Winterstoke Road at around 7.45am on Wednesday (December 9).

Mr Hegarty, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His devastated family have paid tribute to him and said: “We are deeply saddened to announce the death of our eldest son Patrick Hegarty.

"A gentle giant loved by his family and all who knew him.”

The crash caused widespread disruption to motorists and bus services across the city.

The road remained closed for several hours while police carried out investigation work.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the accident or have dash cam footage to call 101 quoting reference number 5220276192.
