When does Winter Love Island start? Countdown on to debut of ITV2 show

The start date for the first ever Winter Love Island has now been revealed and it's not far away at all!

The new series was thrown into chaos last month when long-standing Love Island host Caroline Flack announced she was stepping down from the job as a result of her assault charge.

Caroline , 40, revealed her decision to quit on her Instagram story, writing " Love Island has been my world for the last five years, it’s the best show on telly. In order to not detract attention from the upcoming series I feel the best thing I can do is to stand down for series six.

"I want to wish the incredible team working on the show a fantastic series in Cape Town."

Within minutes of the post going public, speculation was rife as to who would replace Caroline on Love Island, with the early favourite being Maya Jama but the job was eventually handed to Laura Whitmoire.

And ITV have revealed when Winter Love Island will hit our screens.

In a tweet that went out on Thursday morning, the channel tweeted "January, don’t be such a melt.
"It’s time to thaw out those inflatables, @loveisland is BACK! #LoveIsland Returns Sunday 12th January."

So there you have it Love Island fans, get Sunday, January 12 in your diaries. And we're hoping, whoever ends up hosting it, Winter Love Island will be the perfect cure for those post-Christmas blues.
