Winners’ delight as awards dished out to Perthshire's best

A number of the region’s best loved takeaways, cafes and restaurants are celebrating after picking up top awards.

Businesses put in a stellar performance at the Food Awards Scotland, held in Glasgow on Monday, August 26.

Little’s Restaurant in Rattray walked away with best seafood establishment in Scotland, with Fish in Crieff being named best restaurant supplier of the year.

Both establishments are run by Willie Little, who said: “We are delighted to pick up not one, but two top awards which recognise my lifelong commitment to quality fish and seafood in both these businesses.

“It’s been my pleasure to take my hard-working team from both businesses to this awards night.

“We had a superb time and it was a great networking experience.

“These awards matter to us as it’s our customers’ vote that count across the board.

“It’s great that my customers, both domestic and trade, recognise our worth and want to buy my carefully sourced fish and seafood.”

And 3G Catering, based in Perth, won caterer of the year.

George Urquhart from 3G Catering said: “What an achievement for the local area, I am very humbled.

“I can’t believe we won, because we were up against some really big companies.

“We have passion and we want to show Perthshire’s larder, I cannot promote the local produce enough.

“When we won I couldn’t believe it, I was gobsmacked.

“It was the greatest feeling in the world, it was like winning the lottery without buying a ticket.”

A number of businesses also picked up regional awards on the night.

Aladdin’s Indian Takeaway won takeaway of the year for the central region and the Rooftop Restaurant at Crieff’s Knock Castle won central hotel restaurant of the year.

And Little Bird, which only opened up on Perth’s High Street six months ago, won cafe/bistro of the year for the central region.

Camilla Campbell, who runs Little Bird with her partner David Hood, said: “It was done by a public vote, so we don’t know who nominated us.

“We have only been open six months so it is an amazing achievement - we were actually voted for this award around April time when we had only been open for three months, so it is just incredible to be recognised like this.

“It is so nice to bring home the award for the guys in the cafe.

“Thank you to anyone who voted for us.”
