'Winner' of £4m scratchcard says his life is 'ruined' as trolls call him 'scum'

The winner of a £4 million scratchcard says "money is the root of all evil" after Camelot's refusal to pay out saw him relentlessly mocked.

Jon-Ross Watson and pal Mark Goodram were hurled into the limelight after buying the £10 ticket on a day out in London over Easter.

The Lottery company refused to pay out after an investigation took the view they had not paid for the ticket with their own money as neither of them have bank accounts.

Now "depressed" Mr Watson, 31, has told The Bolton News: "In a way, it has ruined my life.

"People have been calling me a scumbag and laughing at me."

He says he can't go anywhere in home town Bolton anymore as people laugh at him, while online he's regularly called a "scum bag".

The friends bought their not-so-lucky ticket in a Waitrose in south London but when asked by The Sun whose card was used to make the purchase they pointed to a mysterious friend called John, a man whose surname and phone number escaped them.

The pair are convicted criminals, with serial burglar Mr Watson a regular feature on most wanted lists, but they now say they'll be the ones calling the police on Camelot after their win was denied.

They've launched a bid to sue the company, with a barrister saying they've been left "starving" with no money.

My Watson added: "The money is the root of all evil but I don't want to be robbed of £4 million."

He says people have been calling him "all the words under the sun" on Facebook and in the street will openly tease him about losing the cash.

The pair went on a much-publicised binge after their win, with 36-year-old Mr Goodram saying he planning to spend his winnings on luxury properties.

But Camelot's decision has been described his ex Shelley Birtles as "karma", with the 34-year-old saying she was "laughing her head off".
