Winner announced of band competition to support The Stranglers at massive Scottish gig

The winners of a competition to support rock legends The Stranglers ahead of their headline set in Scotland his summer have been announced.

Fans are gearing up to sing along to iconic Strangler tunes including Golden Brown, No More Heroes and Peaches at the Kelvingrove Bandstand in less than two weeks - and they'll be treated to music by local Glasgow band The Vanities as well.

The Vanities fought off competition from eight other bands to win the golden ticket of warming up the crowd for the 70s punk legends ahead of their massive outdoor gig on Saturday, June 29.

Following the shortlist being announced, each band had to share their own poster on Facebook, with the band with the most shares winning the chance to support The Stranglers.

Following their win, The Vanities said: "Growing up basing our sound on the first wave punk records of the 70’s, bands like The Stranglers and The Ruts have been a massive influence on all four of us.

"It’s crazy to think we are going to support them at the bandstand, this is huge for us and we can’t thank everyone enough for voting for us."
