Winks and Alderweireld in, Aurier out: How Jose Mourinho could line Spurs up to face West Ham

Jose Mourinho will take charge of Tottenham for the first time tomorrow (Saturday) as Spurs face West Ham in a London derby.

The Lilywhites travel to face the Hammers at the London Stadium after a period of change for the north London side, with Mourinho replacing Mauricio Pochettino this week.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United man has only had a few days to work with his new players, so he will have some decisions to make when it comes to selecting his first team.

But who should play? Three of our writers at football.london take a look at how Spurs could line up at the London Stadium, below.

All eyes will be on the teamsheet come 11.30am on Saturday morning as Jose Mourinho names his first Spurs team following his appointment as head coach.

The experienced manager is expected to make a couple of changes and one player who could really benefit from his arrival is Eric Dier.

Spurs have missed a defensive shield in front of the back four this term and the versatile player can give them exactly that.

As Tanguy Ndombele will be assessed ahead of the game due to his groin issue, Moussa Sissoko should start alongside Dier if his fellow countryman misses out given Mourinho likes to go with powerful midfielders.

The front four from the team that drew against Sheffield United should remain, with Toby Alderweireld coming back into the side to partner Davinson Sanchez at the back.

It will be interesting to see how Jose Mourinho lines up for his first game in charge.

Things had not been going well for Mauricio Pochettino, leading to his sacking on Tuesday. But it was more a case of the players at his disposal not playing to their usual standard, rather than Pochettino picking the wrong players per se.

For starters, as I've said many times before, Serge Aurier cannot play.

Juan Foyth should be right-back and I think Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld should be the center-backs, with Ben Davies on the left.
In midfield I'd play Ndombele and Winks, if the Frenchman is fit, while Giovani Lo Celso, Son Heung-min and Dele Alli should be the three in behind Harry Kane.

Jose Mourinho has not had long to get to know his new players.

With just a few training sessions under his belt at Hotspur Way, it is unlikely that Mourinho will have had too much time to work on changing formation or personnel.

However, he has already said that the squad does not need an overhaul, and he wants to build on the base that was already there.

As such, I would be surprised to see him make too many changes for the game against West Ham.

Mourinho will know all about the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dele Alli, and is likely to go with what he knows.

Tanguy Ndombele is a doubt with a groin injury and is to be assessed ahead of the game, with Harry Winks in contention to start, if the Frenchman misses out.

The other question marks come in defence, with Mourinho having been critical of Davinson Sanchez in the past, and doubts over Serge Aurier defensively at right-back.

I can see Toby Alderweireld and Juan Foyth coming into the side, but other than that, it should be much the same as it was against Sheffield United.

Robert's team : Gazzaniga, Foyth, Dier, Alderweireld, Davies; Winks, Sissoko; Lo Celso, Alli, Son; Kane.

But who do you want to be in Mourinho's first line-up?
