WinkBeds is renowned for producing high-quality, luxury hybrid mattresses that support any body type. Today, the brand has unveiled a new Frost cover — an optional upgrade to the WinkBed's standard Tencel cover with extra cooling yarns built in.
Over the years, the brand has nailed durability and robust support in its mattress line-up, but one thing holding it back has been temperature regulation. Standard WinkBeds mattresses simply don't dissipate heat as well as competitors such as the Saatva Classic or Bear Elite Hybrid.
But with the introduction of the new Frost cooling cover, the WinkBed could become a real threat to many of our best mattresses of the year, including our top-rated Saatva Classic, and what we think is the best cooling mattress, the Bear Elite Hybrid — especially since the WinkBed already comes in four firmness options.
Launching just in time for Black Friday mattress sales, the upgraded WinkBed promises to be a worthy purchase for hot sleepers this sale season. We hope to get a hands-on test of it soon to see how it compares with our top-rated beds.
For now, here's everything we know about the WinkBeds Frost cooling cover so far...
WinkBeds Frost cooling cover: Price
As an optional upgrade, the Frost cooling cover comes at an additional cost. WinkBeds' MRSPs and sale prices are also changing today (hello, mattress tariffs).
You'll need to add $125 to each size of the WinkBed for the cooling upgrade. After the price hike, that takes a queen size core WinkBed to $1,924 with the cover (was $1,499) and a queen WinkBed Plus to $2,124 (was $1,699).
It's quite a jump, but for a cooler night's sleep on the best mattress for heavy people we've tested yet, we think the price is justified.
Plus it offers targeted spinal support, exceptional comfort and strong motion isolation, according to our WinkBed mattress review, so you're getting the full package with this top-rated mattress for back pain. For comparison, the Saatva RX mattress at #1 in our back pain guide is currently $2,890 for a queen (MSRP $3,399).
WinkBeds Frost cooling cover: Features
How exactly does the Frost cooling cover work, you ask? It is made with Advanced Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) cooling fibers that actively draw excess heat away from your body as you sleep, thanks to their high thermal conductivity.
In this sense, UHMWPE fibers work in a similar way to Phase Change Material (PCM), copper and graphite infused foams and Celliant, which we usually see being used in cooling mattresses to help temperature regulation.
WinkBeds says the Frost cover is engineered to sleep 20% cooler than its already-cool Tencel cover, and promises that it delivers an instantly cool-to-the-touch surface to maintain an ideal sleeping temperature for years to come.
As the cooling fibers are woven directly into the mattress fabric, they should have a long-lasting impact.
Currently the cover is only available on the WinkBed, rather than the GravityLux and EcoCloud mattresses. Depending on how customers respond, WinkBeds may roll it out across all mattresses.
