Winger on Turkish club's transfer 'agenda' after Nottingham Forest release

Winger Sammy Ameobi has been linked with a move to Turkey, following his release from Nottingham Forest.

The 29-year-old was among seven players let go at the end of their contracts, when the Reds announced their retained list - along with five loanees returning to their parent sides.

It leaves him as a free agent as he searches for a new club ahead of the upcoming season.

And, according to Turkish outlet Sporx, Ameobi is wanted by top-flight side Goztepe as they look to replace departing wide man Zlatko Tripic.

The fact Ameobi would be able to make the move without a fee is said to be appealing, and he has been placed on the team’s transfer “agenda” after a report from coach Unal Karaman.

Karaman is said to have been keeping tabs on the former Forest player “for a long time” and is said to have “made a request to the management for the transfer to take place”.

Goztepe are said to want to secure Ameobi’s services “at an affordable price”, but they could face some competition.

The report claims he has received other offers from teams in England, as well as elsewhere in Europe.

Ameobi made the move to the City Ground two years ago, after leaving Bolton Wanderers.

He made 81 appearances in the Garibaldi and scored eight goals, including bagging three in 34 games during the campaign just gone.

He was released this summer, along with Michael Dawson, Michael Hefele, Yuri Ribeiro, Samba Sow and Abdoulaye Diallo, while Glenn Murray decided to retire.
