Winger Lewis Morgan plans to use his Sunderland loan spell as a 'springboard' at Celtic

It ended in disappointment, but winger Lewis Morgan says he can only take “positive things” from his loan at Sunderland.

Jack Ross signed the 22-year-old winger for a second time in January, when he loaned Morgan from Celtic until the end of the season.

Morgan started 15 matches, including the Football League Trophy final at Wembley but not its play-off equivalent , and scored twice.

He has since returned to Parkhead, and appeared in both legs of the Bhoys’ Champions League qualifier against Sarajevo, starting the second leg. He plans to use his time at the Stadium of Light to kick-start a Celtic career which is yet to get going.

“I needed to get games, and the opportunity came up to go down south,” said Morgan. “I enjoyed my time down there and hopefully I can use that a springboard here at Celtic. It was only positive things that I took away from the experience.”

Morgan began his career at St Mirren, where he first came under Ross’ wing. The Buddies sold him to Celtic in January 2018, but immediately loaned him back for the rest of the campaign.

His start in the 2-1 win over Sarajevo was only the second of his Celtic career, both in Europe. He has come of the bench 13 times.

Earlier this summer it was reported that Motherwell were interested in taking Morgan on another loan.
