Winger explains why he turned down Liverpool transfer in 2018

Christian Koffi has explained the reason he apparently rejected a move to Liverpool in favour of Fiorentina.

The 19-year-old forward departed Monaco in 2018 opting for a switch to Italy.

Koffi, who has since made 58 appearances for Fiorentina's youth side, has claimed he chose to join the Serie A outfit to 'progress' as a player.

The winger told Goal: "Everything was decided a little bit at the last moment.

“I was very flattered by the interest of Liverpool, but I chose Fiorentina for my progress.

"Liverpool is more than a big club and I was not ready at this time, especially in 2018.

"Liverpool’s team was very good. It was not the good timing, it’s the truth."

Koffi now plays alongside former Academy starlet Bobby Duncan at Fiorentina Primavera.

The Liverpool-born striker similarly opted for a move to Italy in pursuit of first-team minutes.

Both players are yet to make their senior bows for Fiorentina as they look to build their careers.
