Winehouse cancels tour, pining for jailed husband

It has been a busy few weeks for Amy Winehouse. The singer spent a night in the cells in Norway for drug possession, her north London home has been raided by police and her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, has been placed on remand in Pentonville prison, culminating in a string of increasingly erratic performances.

Yesterday, her hectic lifestyle took its toll. The singer cancelled the remainder of her tour, saying she could not perform "without my Blake", who remains in custody charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

"I can't give it my all on stage without my Blake," she said. "I'm so sorry but I don't want to do the shows half-heartedly; I love singing. My husband is everything to me and without him it's just not the same."

Winehouse's record company said she had cancelled her performances on the instruction of her doctor. She had been scheduled to perform in Britain and Ireland, but a statement from the Island Records said the 24-year-old had been told to deal with "health issues".

"Amy Winehouse has cancelled all remaining live and promotional appearances for the remainder of the year on the instruction of her doctor," Island said. "The rigours involved in touring and the intense emotional strain that Amy has been under in recent weeks have taken their toll.

"In the interests of her health and wellbeing, Amy has been ordered to take complete rest and deal with her health issues."

Earlier this year Winehouse cancelled a US tour, also citing health issues, and a series of European gigs after suffering from "severe exhaustion".

The singer, whose award-winning Back To Black is Britain's biggest-selling album of the year, has struggled with drug dependency to the point where her father-in-law asked fans to stop buying her albums in an effort to help her. She was admitted to a London hospital in the summer and was said to have come close to death after taking cocaine, ecstasy, ketamine and marijuana.
