It is the wine industry’s worst-kept secret that some of the best bottles of plonk hail from Aldi. The budget supermarket has won prestigious awards at both the Decanter World Wine Awards and International Wine & Spirit Competition, with its champagne, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc all crowned among the world’s best.
Whether it’s a Whispering Angel alternative, an affordable prosecco or a dupe of the TikTok viral Le Petit Poulet (otherwise known as chicken wine), Aldi knows how to create a viral moment.
The latest bottle to capture attention is its muscadelle white wine. Costing £9.99, it’s been hailed by vino enthusiasts as the ultimate crisp summer wine. Said to be light-bodied with notes of citrus and apple, muscadelle is best enjoyed with a seafood platter – a recipe for the perfect Saturday afternoon.
Packaged in a stylish blue bottle with a yellow-hued label, it feels out of place on a supermarket aisle, prompting wine influencer Candace, otherwise known as TikToker @this.wine.woman, to comment that it’s the kind of bottle you’d find in a “chic Hackney wine bar”.
Here’s everything you need to know about the bottle of plonk.

When Candace shared her thoughts on the new bottle to her nearly 50k followers, she described the wine as “charming”. Not merely style over substance, she also noted that the blue bottle helps shield the wine from the light.
The muscadelle is a “grape variety all on its own, which is a very exciting thing for Aldi to have discovered,” she added. As for her tasting notes, Candace said the wine is “fresh, crisp and vibrant” with notes of lemon and lime. It’s perfect for fans of “light, crisp wines”.
As always, the Aldi wine is available in store only – so make sure to check out your nearest branch before it sells out.
