April 17--Dinosaur Bar-B-Q, Lillie's Q, Smoque and Chicago Q will join host Bub City at this year's Windy City Smokeout July 10-12 at Grand and the Chicago River.
Out-of-town barbecue specialists will include Pappy's Smokehouse (St. Louis), Th Salt Lick BBQ (Driftwood, Texas), Hogapalooza (Little Rock, Ark.), Ubons (Yazoo, Miss.) and Jack's New South (Braselton, Ga.).
"We have some of the very best names in BBQ coming together from all over the country for this festival," said Doug Psaltis of Bub City. "We hope that this will be our best year yet."
Rib master Myron Mixon, a judge on TLC's "BBQ Pitmasters," will teach a class (registration required) offering tips to home cooks. They can also enter the festival's first amateur competition, during which Psaltis will be available for consultation.
If barbecue's not your thing, you can try food from vendors Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken, Doughnut Vault, Supreme Lobster, Crave Bar, La Colombe coffee and The Market at Summer House. Or go straight to the stage, where musical guests will include Pat Green (July 10), Chris Young (July 11), Lee Brice (July 12), Chris Stapleton and Jon Pardi, among others.
A one-day pass will cost you $40, plus food and drinks; three-day passes are $99.50; and $400 will get you VIP status, which grants perks such as access to a special stage area and "exclusive restrooms." Sunday brunch on July 12 with Adam Richman of Travel Channel's "Man vs. Food" will cost you another $70.
