Windsurfers fined for travelling 125 miles to Welsh coast

Two men from the West Midlands have been fined after travelling 125 miles to north Wales to windsurf.

North Wales Police said the men had travelled to Black Rock Sands in Porthmadog, breaching the coronavirus lockdown rules that says people can only travel for essential reasons.

The police force's Facebook post said: "Two males from the West Mids area were reported by concerned members of the public who spotted them wind surfing at Black Rock Sands, Porthmadog.

"They were issued with penalty notices and advised to return home immediately.

"Their trip was not essential, and apart from the risks posed by travelling around the country potentially spreading virus anywhere they stopped, they could have tied up valuable resources had they had an accident or got into difficulty at sea, risking RNLI, ambulance and diverting essential NHS resources.

"Stay home to save lives."

The men were just one example of hundreds of people across the UK flouting social distancing rule s by travelling to exercise or hanging around in groups when the advice is to exercise close to home and only with people from your household.
