Windsor has three times the rate of tax dodging compared with rest of the UK

Windsor has three times the rate of tax dodging compared with the rest of the UK.

Stockbroker and commuter-belt towns dominate as the places where the most people admit tax avoidance.

But the Queen’s Berkshire home is worst of all, with 23 in every 100,000 residents disclosing unpaid tax to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

St Albans, Guildford and Tunbridge Wells are the next worst – with Aberdeen also in the top 10 thanks to the number of high-paid oil workers.

Accountancy group UHY Hacker Young said people are increasingly likely to admit tax avoidance to escape harsh penalties.

Partner Sean Glancy said: “The home counties are home to many high net worth individuals and well-paid city commuters, likely to have the highest tax bills.

“That leads to greater incentives to find ways to reduce payments. The stockbroker belt is littered with tax avoidance hotspots.”

An HMRC spokesman said: “Once challenged, they can find they pay more than the tax they tried to avoid.”
