Winds of 65mph to hit Liverpool as weather warning issued

Winds of 55 to 65mph may be recorded across Merseyside this week, as the Met Office has put a weather warning in place.

Showers and strong winds are forecast for most of the week , but there will be some drier periods in between. Today, on Tuesday, November 1, it will be a showery start however it will clear for a sunnier afternoon.

Temperatures have dropped since last week though, with Merseyside experience a maximum of 13C according to forecasters. That's significantly cooler than last week, when Liverpool had above average mild temperatures of 17C.

The weather warning kicks in on Wednesday, when things turn very windy with coastal gales. Wet and windy weather will continue for many, with low pressure moving in from the west bringing wind and rain.

Winds are likely to be strongest along Irish Sea coastal areas, including western Wales, northwest England and southwest Scotland, as well as the east coast of Northern Ireland.

A yellow warning for wind has been issued for Wednesday. Steven Keates, deputy chief meteorologist, said: "Within the warning area, gusts are expected of between 55 and 65mph. This is associated with low pressure moving towards the northwest of the UK, which is bringing with it some heavy rain on Wednesday, especially across parts of southwest Scotland, Cumbria and western Wales, although much of the UK will see some rain through the day.

"In addition to high winds in the warning area, many parts of the UK will experience strong and gusty winds, at least for a time, during Wednesday."
