A fire ripped through a shop in Salford during a suspected burglary.
Police and fire crews were called to the scene on Bolton Road in Irlams o' th' Height at around 12.50am this morning (Thursday).
Officers were initially called to reports of a burglary at a shop.
They arrived and discovered a fire inside.
Police said they believe that someone might have been inside the building, but they fled the scene.
The force has not confirmed the name of the shop where the incident happened, though pictures taken this morning showed four blown out windows at the Big Discount Store on Bolton Road.
The shop's front shutter has a large hole in the front and there was smashed glass on the pavement.
In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At about 00.50am today (23 June), officers were called to reports of a burglary at a shop on Bolton Road, Salford.
"On arrival, a fire was discovered and GMFRS attended.
"It is believed someone may have been inside the building but fled the scene.
"Enquiries are ongoing."
A spokesperson from GMFRS said: “At approximately 1am on Thursday, 24 June, firefighters were called to an incident on Bolton Road, in Salford.
“The fire involved a two-storey commercial property.
"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used four hose reels, a positive pressure ventilation fan and other specialist equipment to extinguish the fire.
"Fire crews were at the scene for several hours.”
