Over the past few years, Microsoft has been quietly adding features to support peer-to-peer and groupware, and now it has launched a beta version of the Windows XP Peer-to-Peer Software Development Kit. As CNet notes, Microsoft bought XDegrees, a peer-to-peer start-up, last year, and has been working for some time with Ray Ozzie's Groove Networks. Microsoft's long term view is clearly that eventually most people will have a PC that is powerful enough to be a server and an always-on broadband internet connection that can support peer-to-peer applications.
