Aussies lose, Windies take T20 series 4-1

Australian skipper Aaron Finch twisted his knee in the 16-run T20 loss to the West Indies on Friday. (AAP)

Australia have crashed to a 4-1 loss in the T20 series against the West Indies, suffering a 16-run defeat in the final match in St Lucia.

In a further blow, skipper Aaron Finch twisted his knee in Friday's clash and is now a doubtful starter for the first one-day international in Barbados on Wednesday (AEST).

The hosts set Australia 200 for victory after smashing 8-199 - the highest score of the series - in which Nicholas Pooran's team clouted 17 sixes.

Australia were up with the required run rate at the halfway point of the innings but then lost wickets at regular intervals to eventually finish at 9-183.

Four Australians got starts but none could produce the big innings needed.

Australia lost Josh Phillipe in the first over for a duck, ending a lean series for him in which he scored 14 runs at an average of under five.

The chase was also hurt by some outstanding catching and fielding.

AJ Tye (r) took 3-37 as the West Indies set Australia a 200-run victory target in their T20 match. (AAP)

In form Mitchell Marsh (30 off 15) took 15 off his first five balls from Oshane Thomas but then fell to a sharp return catch from Andre Russell (3-43 off four).

Finch (34 off 23) batted fluently before falling to a magnificent diving one-handed catch by Fabian Allen off Hayden Walsh Jr.

Moises Henriques (21 off 14) was then run out by a direct hit from wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran, who threw down the stumps as the New South Welshman attempted a run with Alex Carey.

After the dismissal of Matthew Wade (26 off 18), Australia didn't have the batting depth to stay in the game, with paceman Sheldon Cottrell (3-28) performing well.

Opener Evin Lewis (79 off 34 balls), who belted nine sixes, led the onslaught earlier for the home team who brought up their 100 inside eight overs .

Australia hit back towards the end of the innings, taking 5-23 and conceding just one four and one six in the last 5.5 overs.

Josh Hazlewood (0-32 off four), AJ Tye (3-37 of four), Adam Zampa (2-30 off 4) and Mitchell Marsh (2-12 off two) helped stem the flow.

Paceman Jason Behrendorff was on the end of some brutal treatment, going for 46 off three overs.
