Windhorst: NBA planning for scenarios where season is canceled

Whether it’s the opinion of public health experts or reports close to the league, it’s sounding ever more likely that the NBA season, or any sport in North America for that matter, will continue at all in the foreseeable future. And now that the NBA sees that writing on the wall, they are reportedly getting more serious about planning for what happens if they do have to cancel the season.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported over the weekend that the NBA and their owners are increasingly pessimistic that the season can be saved, now planning and talking through scenarios where players can get some money between now and whenever the next season begins.

China has had to push back the hopeful start date for its basketball league several times, as it looks like they may not be yet ready to start sports anytime soon. Although the NBA held out hope for nearly a month that they could salvage the season and the playoffs in some form, it’s looking increasingly unlikely that such a scenario that crowns a 2020 NBA Champion happens.
