Wind farm owner snaps up stake in offshore development

Wind farm owner The Renewables Infrastructure Group (TRIG) has sealed its second deal in Germany after buying a stake in a giant offshore development.

TRIG, which owns more than a dozen wind farms in Scotland, will buy a 36% slice of the Merkur project in the German North Sea. The investor is teaming up with Dutch pension fund APG to complete the deal, which marks its third foray into the growing offshore sector.

Once the transaction is completed, TRIG plans to sell some of its shares in Merkur to reduce its holding to 25%.

Helen Mahy, chair of TRIG’s board, said: “We are pleased to be growing our presence in the European offshore wind market, which is making an increasingly important contribution to the decarbonisation of energy usage.”

TRIG’s wind farms in Scotland include Crystal Rig in the Borders and Paul’s Hill and Rothes in Moray.
