The Royal Shakespeare Company’s London Season begins at the Barbican, transferring three of Shakespeare’s most-loved titles – Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and The Merry Wives of Windsor – directly from Stratford-upon-Avon.
Polly Findlay directs Christopher Eccleston in his RSC debut as Macbeth, with Niamh Cusack rejoining the Company as Lady Macbeth in a thrillingly dark production.
RSC deputy artistic director Erica Whyman directs Shakespeare’s violent and devastating tragedy Romeo and Juliet. Set in a world very like our own, a generation of young people born into violence are ripped apart by the bitter divisions of their parents.
Fiona Laird directs the hilarious comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor to conclude the Season. Down on his luck in the suburbs, Sir John Falstaff plans to hustle his way to a comfortable retirement by seducing the wives of two wealthy men. Unknown to him, it’s the women of Windsor who really pull the strings.
